During her years at SPU, she spent two summers conducting marine biology research. Later, she obtained her Master of Science in Biology at Western Washington University. While at SPU and Western, she instructed upper level biology lab classes. The results of her research work at SPU and WWU have been published in scientific journals. She was an adjunct professor for SPU in 2006. Amorah is a certified teacher through ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International).

Amorah loves teaching Science.  She teaches all high school science classes, Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, and Physics.  She also loves teaching Elementary Science.  All of her classes incorporate labs to add the hands-on, creative experience.

“With hard work and persistence all kids can learn and succeed.”

About Me

Amorah Nelson has been a teacher and has been in a leadership role at Hill Creek for over 22 years. Through this time, she has been richly blessed by all of her students and her interactions with the parents. This school is truly a ministry for her. Amorah’s teaching style is concrete sequential and she teaches using a direct instruction approach. She has high standards for her students and is very willing to spend extra time with students who ask for assistance.

Amorah is blessed to be a wife and a mother of two girls and a boy. When time allows, she can be found outside trying to create a beautiful garden. Above all, she is grateful to the Lord, who has blessed her beyond measure and has led her to this career and to this school.

About My Learning Center

Founded in 1994, Hill Creek Christian, a satellite school of Academy Northwest, is a Christian preparatory liberal arts homeschool support program offering challenging academics in grades Pre-K-12 in the areas of writing, literature, classical studies, history, math, science, and foreign language.  We also offer electives such as culinary arts, art, music, and Bible courses. We attract students who desire a challenging Christian education. Our college preparatory program teaches students to view themselves as competent learners and encourages them to seek higher education. Our goal is to place graduates into the public arena as competitive, competent individuals with an unwavering Christian worldview. Our mission is based upon two principles: academic excellence and institutional independence. Professional teachers offer rigorous classes and federal and/or state taxpayer funding is not accepted.

Rigorous academics offer students the opportunity to earn academic excellence and achievement recognition.  Students are encouraged to volunteer at HCC and in surrounding communities. We believe that our academic standards and volunteer opportunities nurture intellectual and social growth while building strong character.

Hill Creek is unique. Students attend each class seminar once or twice per week where they are taught using the direct instruction model with emphasis on participation; however, within this model, teachers use additional approaches to boost student success. Students receive weekly assignments for each class and complete these assignments at home for the next weekly class.

Conferences are held quarterly, although parents have the option of meeting every month to ensure academic success in HCC classes and home studies. Parents and students follow academic progress using ThinkWave, an online grading program. Hill Creek believes that the best education occurs when there is a close working relationship among teacher, student, and parent.

All completed high school coursework is graded and is placed on an official transcript accredited by Cognia and ACSI.  Students have the opportunity to earn a basic, general, or college preparatory diploma. Many students earn academic scholarships to four-year colleges.  In recent years, graduating seniors have been offered more than $1,000,000 in college scholarships and grants and have accepted more than $500,000.

In addition to weekly classes, HCC offers other services. We offer academic tutoring as well as testing.  Consulting services are available for courses which families choose to complete independently at home.

Hill Creek is a school of inclusion where students with learning differences are included within the regular classroom. Qualifying students are given various accommodations including extra time and additional help outside the class. Parents are also invited to explore the benefits of National Institute for Learning Development (NILD) educational therapy. Educational therapy addresses the underlying causes of learning problems rather than treating symptoms.

Hill Creek Christian has 180 students and meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Emmanuel Baptist Church. We would love to have you join us!
