About Me
I was born and raised in Western Washington and am grateful to say that I was raised in a Christian household. My mother was very involved in our education through the public school, and when I was in fifth grade she became convinced that she could "do better". Thus began my family's own homeschool journey.
I am thankful to have had so many opportunities due to my individualized education and was able to pursue subjects that interested me and fit my personality best throughout middle and high school. I graduated from the Academy Northwest (then Family Academy) accredited program in 2006.
As a young adult, I took that passion for learning and obtained my bachelor's in education from a small private college in Oklahoma. I then worked to gain a master's degree in elementary teaching through Liberty University and received my Washington State teacher's certification.
Over the past 12 years, I have had the opportunity to teach grades 1 through 8 in private Christian schools, most recently working as lead teacher in 5th grade. After my son was born in 2022, I prayed that God would provide a way for me to continue working with students, but also allow me to be at home with my own child. God brought me to Academy Northwest, where I have the privilege of working with families who are seeking a more personalized education for their kids, in much the same way that my own parents did for me.
My greatest joy is watching students grasp a concept that was previously challenging, or seeing a child begin to enjoy a subject that he or she previously disliked. Education can be fun and it can be interesting and my goal is to make the process of learning an enjoyable one for all of my students. I want my students to succeed and will work tirelessly with them and their families to form a plan that will lead to my students’ success and confidence.
About My Learning Center
Northsound Learning Center meets at my home in Marysville, Washington. I offer high school classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00-3:00 in the afternoon. I am available for tutoring on Wednesday afternoons.
My current high school class is no bigger than four students. We meet twice per week to go over home school work that has been assigned and to touch base regarding any questions that the students may have. With our remaining time, we work on science labs, hands on history projects, and cooking or home economics electives. My goal during our class time together is not to have a study hall session, but to spend time learning in a way that is fun and engaging. I assign many projects throughout the year that will allow students to develop skills that they will need as they enter the “real world”. We create presentations, organize information on brochures, create spread sheets, and make newsletters. We even get out the poster board and learn how to make a professional looking display!
My goal is always to work closely with parents and they are absolutely the key to a successful educational experience for their children. I will send weekly lesson plans to parents so that they can follow along and make sure that their high school student is staying caught up. I am always available via text or email to answer any questions. I meet with my families once per quarter, but am certainly happy to schedule more time if needed.
Our Class Offerings
I currently offer high school classes from 1-3pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
