Areas of Educational Expertise

Brandy Vizmanos-Garcia decided to pursue a career in teaching during her sophomore year of high school after visiting the University of Arizona Education Department.  She thought this would be the best career to pursue because that would allow her more time to be at home with the family she hoped to have one day.  Never in her wildest dreams did she think this would lead her to the world of homeschooling.

Brandy received her Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education from the University of Arizona in 1998, with a major in history, a minor in political science, and a middle school endorsement.  While teaching 6th-grade history by day, Brandy worked by night to earn a degree in special education.  She earned her Master’s Degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Emotional Behavior from the University of Arizona in 2001.  Brandy taught in the public school system for 9 years, and 5 of those years were spent in an integrated special education classroom.  Over 15 years ago, the circumstances of her son’s education would lead her to Academy Northwest.

Brandy has run Calvary Heritage Learning Center as an Academy Northwest teacher since 2007. For many years, she has walked alongside parents of high school students who pursued their diplomas. She later accepted a position at Hill Creek Christian, an Academy Northwest learning center in Mount Vernon, where she taught students of all ages in multiple subject areas. Today, Brandy continues to offer consulting services to high school students through Calvary Heritage and teaches social studies classes at Hill Creek Christian, but these hours are limited as Brandy is now the principal of Academy Northwest.

Christian Education Philosophy

I believe God created each person to serve a purpose that will result in his glorification.  Christian educators are responsible for walking alongside parents as they lead their children to salvation and disciple them to be image bearers for the Kingdom who seek fulfillment of God’s call on their life.  A Christian education is built on a biblical worldview that bears the fruits of the spirit, reflecting God’s presence in the lives of those who receive it.

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.  These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.  Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.  Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.  Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. ~ Deuteronomy 6:4-9.

About Me

My heart, first and foremost, is to walk alongside families as they raise the next generation to serve God. The world is a corrupt and broken place, and many are searching for peace and purpose that can only be found when they recognize that their true identity comes from their Creator, God, and their salvation from their Savior, Jesus Christ.  Our responsibility as the Body of Christ is to bring our youth to Christ and disciple them to bring Christ to the world.  This can be accomplished most effectively through Kingdom Education, as churches and schools educate their children through a biblical worldview founded in the truth of the Bible.

My services are for parents who recognize that God has given them the primary responsibility of educating their children.  Parents will enroll their students with me when they need extra support in providing their children with an accredited education that allows their children to fulfill their God-given purpose.  Parents can trust me to support them as they provide individualized education to their children rooted in the foundational truths of the Bible.  My years of experience at Academy Northwest have left me with knowledge of curriculum, educational approaches, resources, and connections that allow me to share many options or combinations of options that allow students to prepare for their futures post-high school under a flexible educational model.

About My Learning Center

I provide consultation services to high school students seeking an accredited education. I require weekly virtual one-hour sessions with my students and quarterly conferences with them and their parent(s). Parents are the primary educators and record keepers.  Weekly sessions with me may include but are not limited to assisting students with parent-created assignments, Bible studies, working through Academy Northwest’s Biblical Worldview and Life Practicum courses, skill-building activities necessary to pass ANW competencies, weekly planner checks, and educational advising sessions.  My learning center has limited space, so if I am unable to serve a family, I work to find an ANW teacher who can meet the student’s educational needs.
