Quote
"I consider it an honor and a privilege to partner with homeschooling parents who seek to provide a quality academic education, consistent with a Christian world view, which encourages their child to know and love the Lord Jesus Christ and walk with Him."
About Me
Karla Bean is a WA certified teacher with over 35 years science teaching experience in traditional classrooms, outdoor school, workshops, and most recently, as an Academy Northwest teacher. serving 18+ years with Academy Northwest.
Karla holds a B.S. and M.S. in Science Education. Postgrad, she studied at UW (Summer Chemistry Institute), trained with Prentice Hall (IPS Physical Science), and at Seattle Pacific University with the “Energy Project,” a national program designed to train teachers in the latest techniques in Physics Education. Currently, she is a Science Educator Partner (SEP) with Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center in Seattle where she trained in DNA technology. This educational background allows Karla to o_er a wide variety of science courses at a high academic level to homeschooling families.
Karla began her teaching career in public education where she was mentored to teach science by inquiry. Later, moving into Christian education, she found a freedom to teach science from a creation perspective and address current issues from a Christian worldview. During her homeschool years, she discovered ANW, with their unique educational model of parent directed education overseen by certified teachers. Her daughter graduated with ANW and went on to college level studies.
Karla is sold on the educational model of ANW and is thrilled to serve families using her science expertise and her own experiences with homeschooling. She especially enjoys the team aspect of parent-teacher-student that ANW emphasizes.
About My Learning Center
Karla provides science and math options for True North Learning Center, headed by Nadine Cloud of Winlock.
My services are for people who believe that parents are the primary educations of their children, and who, also, see the value of community in education through classroom experiences.
My courses are designed for students who desire college-prep math/science courses as they prepare for post-high school education.
Enrolling in my science classes will help your student prepare for college with college-prep content, extensive laboratory experiences, and the development of study skills necessary to succeed in upper division science and math.
My science classes are small, averaging 4-10 students. All equipment and supplies are provided for a thorough high school science laboratory experience – which can be difficult and expensive for individual families to provide.
Karla is available as a Math Tutor. She recommends weekly meetings with students for the entire year. Options include individual tutoring with a program tailored to your needs, or in a small class setting, upon request. Karla prefers teaching math out of her home in Longview, but other options are available.

“I was so well prepared for tackling college science after my courses with Mrs. Bean -- my freshman Chem course was my easy A!”
